Subject: Mini Waikato river trout contest!

Some tips learnt the hard way!

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that our 2017 Kilwell lower Waikato river trout contest is now coming up fast- it runs from 7th  to 15th October- 9 days including 2 weekends, finishing right at the end of the school holidays.

There’s over $6,000 in prizes, adults and junior sections plus the women’s and team section as well.

New features- this year we’re offering a large entry draw prize for both adults and juniors, and you don’t have to weigh a fish in to win it! You do have to present at the prize-giving though, or they will be re-drawn. The final weigh in is now 1 PM on Sunday 15th October at Taupiri Tavern, with Prize-giving start set for 4 pm that day.

Adults- All entries in the draw to win a Taupo Package of $1,000 value - 3 hours fishing for two or more on the MV Waimarie,  2 nights accommodation at De Bretts (Hot pools attached), plus petrol vouchers to get you there!
Juniors- All entries in draw to win a fishing prize package to the value of $250 retail!

See the attached files for more details, but we have the same weigh stations as last year- Huntly, Taupiri, Hamilton and Cambridge, and prices are the same, Juniors under 17 are $15, Adults $35, and teams of 4 only $20 per team.

We have Kilwell NZ as main sponsor again, with a host of local businesses in support as further sponsors.

Entry forms and details at Sweetman’s Reel Fishin’ in Huntly, ph 0800 80 80 81 . You can call in, or ring and enter using visa card details, or send cheque as per address on entry form.

See you there!

Latest News

Our stretch of river in Huntly has been sitting at roughly a metre to 2 metres above normal height for the past month...but as we saw in our 2016 contest, that doesn’t mean there’s no trout about! See the attached pdf for tips on fishing in bigger flows to increase your chances. Note a new rule for the new season is that scented soft-baits are now allowed in all AWFG waters except “fly-fishing only”.

Our contest starting this Saturday 7th October is well on the way, see the attached entry form and contact Sweetmans Rell Fishin’ to enter yourself, your family or team. You will need the new licence, (none available in Huntly) so see below for local agents, or buy direct. Also note there is a 9 day licence which covers our competition period. Juniors under 13 free, Juniors 13-18 $25 season, Adults season $127, Family season $165, 9 day licence adults $89.

Competition updates-

The Kilwell prizes will be in stock soon, and it’s another great array of packages ready for our contestants, many thanks to their team! Sweetmans are also sorting additional prizes, something for everyone!

The Taupo Package is all finalised, remember this is an “entry draw” for all adult contestants, whether you weigh a trout or not, but you must be present at the prize giving to collect it.

It’s $1,000 worth, comprising a $450 voucher to spend at De Bretts Spa resort any way/combination you want- accommodation, cafe, hot pools or Day spa treatments- you can go as a couple or a small family..
$450 for a 3 hour fishing trip on MV Waimarie, with Grant Lister (over 30 years experience on Lake Taupo) which will include a view of the rock carvings, maybe a spot of clay-bird shooting if you so desire..plus of course the opportunity to catch some feisty rainbows!
$100 of petrol vouchers to get you there!

BTW- Sweetmans Reel Fishin’ Huntly have just got in more stock of the hugely successful “Storm” softbaits.....don’t miss out!
